Black lacquer and fine brass accents give the Maitland-Smith Song Black Console Table its chinoiserie character, an East-meets-West vocabulary of deep, glossy surfaces and gleaming metal details. Built of wood and brass by a maker known for hand-crafted specialties, it has a presence that goes well beyond its compact footprint. As with all of the maker's natural materials, no two pieces are exactly alike.

The usable width makes the Song an easy fit in an entry, where it can hold a lamp, a bowl for keys and a mirror hung above. Behind a sofa, the brass accents catch the evening light; in a hallway or landing, it becomes a polished pause point. The black finish suits traditional rooms with collected art and antiques, and it lends graphic contrast to lighter, more contemporary schemes.
