Foliage without flowers is the harder artificial arrangement to get right, and also the more useful one. A bouquet of blooms is a seasonal gesture that dates itself; green leaves read as permanent and belong in a room year-round. They also work as a base layer, filling a large vase so that a smaller number of flower stems can be added without needing to buy enough blooms to fill the whole vessel. Thirty-six stems is a generous count for that job. Each stem carries an iron core, so leaves can be bent and angled to build an arrangement with genuine depth rather than a flat fan. Tender leaves are among the more delicate foliage shapes, finer and lighter than magnolia, which suits a glass vase where the stems themselves remain visible. That transparency matters: a heavy stem reads as an obstruction through clear glass, while these stay slender enough for the vessel to remain part of the composition rather than merely a container.
