Green upholstery, brushed brass and black bevelled glass - the Matthew is a bar that earns its place in the room even before anyone pours a drink. Camari green comes from a six-fibre blend of acrylic, recycled polyester, viscose, polypropylene, polyester and linen, each taking dye differently, so the surface has a mottled tweedy depth that flat weaves cannot reach. Against brushed brass and dark glass it reads considered and slightly louche, in the best sense. The bevelled edge on the glass catches light along the rim, which stops a dark top reading as a flat void above a coloured base. Glass takes the wear where drinks are set down; fabric goes where people lean. At 55.12 inches it holds bottles, glasses and a tray with room to spare. It suits a formal drawing room, a games room, a wide landing or a study, and sits naturally with walnut, deep wall colour and antique mirror. Rated beyond 80,000 rubs with colour fastness to light at 5 of 5 on SAE 201 stainless steel.
