Hand blowing a smoke-tinted shade produces something a moulded one cannot: tint that varies in density across the surface rather than sitting uniformly.

Because the glass is worked by hand, wall thickness changes subtly around the vessel, and with a tinted glass those variations translate directly into shifts in how much light passes through. The result is a shade that glows unevenly, deeper where the glass thickens and clearer where it thins, so a single flame appears to move within it. No two pieces behave identically. An iron frame in antique brass supports the glass and gives the piece its stability.

At 16.14 inches high with a 10.24 inch diameter, the Greyson is a full-size hurricane suited to a console, a mantelpiece or a sheltered terrace where a candle needs protection from draught. Its rounded profile distinguishes it from the squarer Heston pieces, which makes the two work well together in a mixed grouping rather than reading as a matched set.
