Mappa burl veneer on a swivel chair is an unusual pairing of a very old material with a very modern one. Burl is the figured wood taken from a growth on a tree trunk, where the grain swirls rather than running straight - impossible to fake convincingly and prized in cabinetmaking for centuries. Setting it against a swivel mechanism and recycled upholstery gives the chair a deliberate tension between craft and function, which is more interesting than either on its own. Two fabrics are used: bayard brown and renato brown, one of them a GRS certified blend of 51% recycled polyester, meaning the recycled content has been audited through the supply chain rather than asserted. Both exceed 80,000 Martindale rubs. The chair is deeper than it is wide, 39.37 inches against 31.50, with a 22.83 inch seat depth at a low 17.32 inch height.
