The Carleton comes four ways - bar and counter height, with a back and without - so a whole kitchen can be furnished from one design. This is the counter version with a back, which suits a standard 36 inch island at a 26.77 inch seat. The back is what makes it somewhere to stay rather than perch: breakfast turns into an hour, homework gets done at the counter, and guests keep the cook company instead of drifting away. Camari cream comes from a six-fibre blend of acrylic, recycled polyester, viscose, polypropylene, polyester and linen. Each takes dye differently, so the cream has a mottled tweedy depth rather than reading flat - warm and considered against brushed brass, marble and pale oak. The figures are strong throughout: beyond 80,000 Martindale rubs, pilling at 4 to 5 of 5, and colour fastness to light at the top of the scale, which matters in a kitchen full of daylight. A swivel base on SAE 201 stainless steel.
