The back is what turns a perch into a seat people actually stay in. A backless stool is elegant and tucks away neatly, but nobody lingers on one. Support behind the shoulders means breakfast at the island turns into an hour, which is how kitchen counters really get used. It takes 0.8 metres of cloth against the backless version's 0.5, and all of the extra goes into that curve. Camari cream comes from a six-fibre blend of acrylic, recycled polyester, viscose, polypropylene, polyester and linen, each catching light differently, so the cream has a mottled tweedy depth rather than reading flat. Against brushed brass, marble and pale oak it looks warm and considered. The figures suit a working kitchen: beyond 80,000 Martindale rubs, pilling at 4 to 5 of 5, colour fastness to light at the top of the scale for a sunlit room, and polypropylene foam that absorbs almost no moisture. CAL-117 compliant, assembly required.
